Premiership: Arsenal 2 – Blackburn 0

Senderos (4), Adebayor(90)

Match Gunner: Alex Hleb

We went in with the knowledge that Man Utd has somewhat slipped up as they lost to Man City. With that a win against Blackburn will give us a 5 point advantage at the top with 12 more games to go. We started with a slightly peculiar lineup as we were short on numbers. Cesc was placed on the right while Gilberto occupied the vacant central midfield position left. Lehmann retained his run in the squad due to Almunia’s injury. The most peculiar thing about it was probably the bench, we had three fullbacks(Gilbert,Hoyte,Traore), one forward(Bendtner) and a goalkeeper(Fabianski)

We started off really brightly, Eduardo kept Blackburn busy and in the 4th minute provided an assist to Senderos via a corner.Nice movement from Senderos to free himself from his marker and he was left wide open.

After that we continued to lay siege on the Blackburn defence but could not find the second goal as Friedel made a couple of saves. Halfway through the first half and Blackburn sort of got into the game with more possesion of the ball and one or two shots. Most notably a Benni McCarthy missed header and a half chance for Santa Cruz.

Second half and a Bentley free kick that was going wide but was brilliantly palmed away by Jens anyway. Arsenal was once again controlling the tempo. Sagna and Hleb were the outstanding players on the pitch. Hleb nearly scored a wonderful 2nd for the team but the shot bounced off the post. Friedel was again impressive and Arsene decided to switch to a 4-5-1 formation with Eduardo coming down and Fab given a more central role. We were the most likely to score but we did not until the final minutes when our in form striker came out of game limbo to net his goal to make it 9 consecutive games with at least a goal.

5 points was what the press was harping about before the game and we duly delivered. As Wenger pointed out in his post match interview, we would be foolish to not think that we can win this with 12 games to go. Anyone in the lead would do so. The important thing is to not think about the point difference as a buffer cushion but instead build on the momentum

I don’t want my team to focus on the difference between us and the rest, I want them to focus on strengthening our lead and going to every game to keep that momentum going and assert our authority and to win every game, play like real challengers

A break in the Premiership now and onto the 5th round matchup with Man Utd in the weekend. C’mon you Reds!

Blades of Glory

A quick review of a good comedy. Most Malaysians might not even know that this was showed in Malaysian Cinema. Why do I say this? I was among maybe 20 odd people in the cinema hall. Right, down to business. No artsy movie poster here. It is a tale of two male ice skaters. Pure and simple
BoG Movie Poster
Blades of Glory is headed by Will Ferrell(Talladega Nights) and Jon Heder(Napolean Dynamite). Nothing new from them as Will plays the obnoxious loud mouth in the form of Chazz Michael Michaels; a world class ice skater addicted to sex. Jon plays his usual role; a blank goody goody character in the form of Jimmy MacElroy an orphan trained to be an uber ice skater by his foster father(who used to train racehorses) The plot is straight to the point. Two skaters get banned from professional skating for fighting on the podium. A loophole enables said skaters to enter as doubles rather than the respectively banned singles event and the movie continues along their journey to reach the world championships.

It is sort of ploddy at times but there is no denying that it is a funny movie perfect for a lazy afternoon. Wonderful scenes like the cock lock, the 180 starwheel, the peacock flight and the jockstrap grab and boob grab are all good comedy pieces. * Once you’ve seen the movie, you’ll know which of my phrases coincide with which action ;) Supporting cast give a respectable showing with Amy Poehler and her husband(Saturday Night Live) and Jenna Fischer(The Office-U.S.) the other stars who provide comedy relief.

I give it a 4/5 for a comedy movie. Perfect as a DVD session.

Movie-300

I’ll give this movie 4 out of 5.
It’s pretty entertaining. The visuals are spectacular-the whole movie was shot in front of a blue screen-giving the art director plenty of freedom to design BIG backgrounds using CGI.
bluescreencomparison
A lot of slow motion-normal motion transitions are used for a stylized look during the pivotal moments of the show. The director managed to not overuse it.
It is for the majority, a testosterone-fueled movie with fight scenes galore. For the ladies, there are plenty of six-packs running around too.

Maybe they refer to this movie as the 1800?

Flashback – Goodbye Boys

Poster

This 2006 movie set in 1990 is directed and written by Bernard Chauly; an ex-student in my secondary school(that’s what most 13-17 year olds in Malaysia go to)

8 boys, 5 days, 100km, one coming of age journey…

That’s the tagline of the show; and it sums up what this movie is based on. An expedition to fulfill the requirements of getting a King Scout qualification.

This show is close to my heart as I have gone through similar experiences as a part of 02 Kinta Troop in St. Michael’s Institution. This is for sure, going to be a biased and personal review for me and I’ll point out why.

1. All the songs in the film sung by the ‘patrol’ members are authentically either 02 or universal scout songs. Haven’t heard them in ages.
2. Catching glimpses of my beloved alma mater; from the parlour to the La Salle Centre(prom night venue) to the cobbled and shaded walkway(which was actually completed circa 1996.)
3.”Awan kumulus nimbus” , gatherings, playing in the rain, bamboo skewers, dampers, backwoodsman cooking, 02 shoulder patch, Master Timothy, Brother Vincent
4. The uncertainty surrounding a Form 5 Boy. Leaving your school and venturing into the unknown.

Disturbing discrepancy found in the movie:
Wearing a t-shirt without the scarf-definite no-no in any authentic 02 scout’s book. You’ll get rapped by Master Timothy. Not to mention that it’s the perfect shield for your neck from getting sunburned

On to the review
The cast is relatively good for first-timers. Stereotyped one dimensional characters they may be; as pointed out early in the film.

Strong,silent leader
Nerdy boy
Fat boy
Joker
Ladies Man
Stickler for the rules
Rich Boy
Idealist

From the start of the film, all the different personalities are given straight away. The part about the mother who is short on money but is worrying the son has nothing to eat on the way and provides him with some canned food and leaving some money on the sly. Typical Asian way of showing motherly love. As the guys begin their journey everything is organized. The rogues appear in the form of the Joker and the Ladies Man who take a short cut by hitching on a lorry. They reach their destination in Kampar. The 20km checkpoint and rest for a day. Stories are told, games played.
Second day and the sun is taking it’s toll again and you can see the exhaustion in most of them but they manage to reach Tanjung Tualang…..to be continued

Eragon Movie Review

Eragon. Do not waste your time. Only go in for the great special effects and Jeremy Irons. Comparisons with Lord of The Rings was going to be inevitable but unfortunately it shows too much resemblance.
